View from Mdina Bastions at Dusk

Mmmm cikulata cake!

Fontanella Tea Gardens situated on the edge of Mdina bastions sells what is widely believed to be THE best chocolate cake on the island. For the bargain price of 2.20 Euro you are presented with a generous slab-sided portion (to eat in or 2 Euro to take away).
Highly recommended.
Enjoy it either in the cafe/tea gardens or if full (as is common in the summer and at weekends) sit on the bastions and enjoy the panoramic views...

Time really does fly...

The past week has absolutely flown!
Admittedly the job does keep us busy, trying to solve various problems and making sure everyone is having a good time but I was ridiculously surprised to learn that today was in fact Saturday!

Gianpula

I accompanied some of the students to a large international party at Gianpula - an open air nightclub near Rabat/Mdina. I was incredibly impressed with the club itself - the layout is original and sprawls across various tiers, the dance floor is large, the cool evening air and the fact that you can see the stars was a welcome change from some clubs at home with their low ceilings and general sweaty aroma...

Over 1000 students from the main language schools were there and the mood was very positive. There was no trouble whatsoever and everyone (staff included) danced the night away, students were even co-operative when leaving!

Job

I am working for a large English language school looking after students in their hostel. Students come from all over the world to learn English in the sun.
I have now been in Malta for 10 days and have settled into the school/hostel routine and am picking up a few Maltese words - my colleagues are being incredibly patient with my constant questions - 'What does that/that mean?', 'How do you say this/that/the other?'

Cawcaw Manchester

I left Manchester on Air Malta's evening flight on an overcast Wednesday.
We touched down in Luqa greeted by the familiar humidity of Mediterranean air and found out that all the buses and taxis were on strike. Luckily I was met by my new boss...
